Welcome to Critical Artificial Intelligence Literacy! In this course, we’ll explore artificial intelligence’s impact on our lives as students, workers, and human beings living in a moment where many rapidly advancing technologies are reshaping our world. As AI’s influence grows, we need an in-depth and critical understanding of the technology and its influence and impact on our educational, professional, and personal lives. This syllabus is for a college-level course in Critical AI Literacy and fulfills students’ need to understand artificial intelligence across various fields of study. Both “digital natives” and those not as well-versed in technology need critical skills to engage and analyze the technology. Using projects, case studies, resources, and interactive activities, we will delve into AI’s diverse applications and ethical implications, equipping us with the tools and perspective needed to navigate a landscape where artificial intelligence is increasingly integral. This course aims not just to inform but to empower you to critically assess and contribute to the future of AI in our society.
